Garden Design
I see Garden Design as an extension to my artistic practice; it is a place where colour, line and composition can be translated into a three dimensional space.
Gardens should be a sanctuary, a space of contemplation, much like art. The lovely thing about designing gardens is that they can be just as painterly and immersive as creating an artwork.
I design gardens with my husband, Ru Martin, a knowledgeable horticulturist. Our design practice is called Mackintosh Martin Garden Design.
Who we are
We are a professional Garden Design business, run by a husband and wife team that creates thoughtfully designed gardens.
We set out to design gardens that bring long lasting joy to our clients. We aspire to enhance our client’s use and enjoyment of their outside space and extend the amount of time they choose to spend interacting with their garden. We achieve this by carefully listening to our client’s wishes to provide a result they cherish for years to come. Our considered design process and application of horticultural knowledge means form and functionality are met.
Our garden design studio celebrates the link between garden making and art, leaning into hand drawn design work and painterly planting that is uniquely yours.
What we do for you
We will create a fully bespoke design for your garden.
Concept plan | We will create a tailored Concept drawing with accompanying Mood boards and visuals for your new garden. We will present the concept for your new garden to you.
Master plan | Following input from you, we will create a final Master plan drawing, this is a detailed and labeled plan outlining the final layout, materials and specifications developed from the initial concept. At this stage you will also receive a complete Planting plan and map for the new planting scheme for your garden. The final design can be given to knowledgeable landscapers and contractors to work from.
Planting | After the build and landscaping we can source plants and arrange planting to complete your garden.
How it works
Step One: Garden Consultation
We will come and visit you and your garden to get a feel for the project you would like and an idea of the space, your lifestyle and surrounding landscape
Step Two: Site Survey
We will use our surveyors to create an accurate typographical survey of your garden
Step Three: The Concept Plan
Using the survey we will create and present you with a Concept plan, visuals and mood boards to help you to visual the idea for your new garden
Step Four: Master Plan
On approval of the Concept plan, we will create the Master plan including the complete and final Planting List
Step Five: The Build and Planting
The garden will be built using the design plans created by us. If you would like us to source and organise planting, we would be happy to do this for you.
Step Six: Enjoy your new Garden
Once the project is completed you can cherish your new garden. Watching the plants change and develop over time as the garden begins to establish itself.
